Fleet vehicle servicing is a different job to servicing a family car. A work van, ute or company car earns money when it’s moving and costs money when it isn’t — so the goal isn’t just a service sticker, it’s keeping the vehicle out of the workshop for as long as safely possible.
KAAR provides fleet vehicle servicing from two West Auckland workshops, in Avondale and Henderson. We look after everything from a single owner-operator ute through to company fleets running vans, utes, light trucks and passenger cars across Auckland — including the sales reps’ cars, pool vehicles and management vehicles that often get overlooked when a business thinks about its fleet.
You don’t need a large fleet to work with us — plenty of our business customers run just one or two vehicles.
Why fleet vehicle servicing needs a different approach
Most manufacturer service schedules were written around a fairly gentle life — moderate distances, moderate loads, one driver who notices when something changes. Business vehicles rarely live that life:
- Short trips and long idling. A van doing suburban drops may never reach full operating temperature, and a ute idling on site burns hours the odometer never records.
- Constant load. Tools, stock, towing and a full tray change how brakes, suspension, clutches and drivetrains wear.
- Multiple drivers. When nobody owns the vehicle personally, small faults go unreported until they become large ones.
- Deferred maintenance. The vehicle is always needed, so the service gets pushed out — usually right up until the point it fails at the worst possible moment.
- Company cars cover serious distance. A rep’s car can do three or four times the annual kilometres of a private vehicle, which means service intervals arrive far faster than the calendar suggests and wear items reach their limits well before anyone expects.
Every one of those factors puts a vehicle into what manufacturers call severe duty. Proper fleet vehicle servicing accounts for that instead of pretending it isn’t happening.
7 ways our fleet vehicle servicing cuts downtime
1. Servicing to real conditions, not the glovebox schedule
We assess how your vehicle is actually used — distance, load, idle time, terrain — and set intervals against that. For a hard-working van that often means attention sooner than the book suggests. For a low-kilometre ute doing local runs it can mean less unnecessary replacement, not more.
2. Condition-based assessment instead of blind replacement
Our Extensive Service tests components rather than replacing them on a calendar. You pay for what the vehicle needs, and you get told what’s coming so you can budget for it rather than being surprised by it.
3. Managing DPF and emissions systems properly
Modern diesel vans and utes carry diesel particulate filters and, on many later models, AdBlue systems. Both hate short trips and idling — the exact duty cycle most work vehicles run. Catching a filter that isn’t regenerating properly is cheap. Replacing one that’s blocked solid is not.
4. Checking the things load actually kills
Rear suspension, bushes, brake wear front to rear, clutch condition, tow bar and wiring, tyre condition against the load being carried. These are the items that separate a vehicle serviced as a work vehicle from one serviced as a car.
5. Battery and electrical testing before it strands someone
Work vehicles run inverters, beacons, fridges, radios and tracking units, often while stationary. Batteries and charging systems take a hammering, and a flat battery on a job site costs far more than the battery does.
6. WOF on site, with fail items picked up early
We carry out warrant of fitness inspections at our workshops, so servicing and compliance happen in one visit instead of two. Just as importantly, we identify likely fail items ahead of time so the work can be scheduled when it suits you, rather than when a deadline forces it.
7. One workshop that knows the whole fleet
We keep history on every vehicle we look after. That means we can see a pattern developing across your fleet, flag a recurring issue, and plan fleet vehicle servicing so you never have several vehicles off the road at once.
Vehicles we service
Our fleet vehicle servicing covers the vans, utes and company cars most common on Auckland worksites and in local business fleets, 2015 models onward.
Utes: Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Volkswagen Amarok, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, LDV T60, GWM Cannon, KGM Musso
Vans: Ford Transit and Transit Custom, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Vito, Volkswagen Crafter, Transporter and Caddy, Toyota Hiace, Nissan NV350 Caravan and NV200, LDV Deliver 9 and G10, Hyundai iLoad and Staria Load, Renault Trafic and Master, Mitsubishi Express, Fiat Ducato
Imported work vans: a large share of New Zealand’s small commercial vehicles arrive as used Japanese imports, and they’re often the hardest to get parts and data for. We service the Toyota Townace and Liteace, Mazda Bongo, Nissan Vanette and Suzuki Carry — the vehicles doing the courier runs and small trade work across Auckland every day.
Company cars and pool vehicles: the full range of passenger vehicles businesses run — including the hybrids that now make up a large share of new company fleets. Hybrid company cars need servicing to a different standard again, which we cover in our guide to hybrid car servicing in New Zealand.
Electric vehicles: EVs are arriving in company fleets faster than anywhere else in the market, in rep cars and increasingly in vans like the LDV eDeliver range and Ford E-Transit. We service EVs at both Avondale and Henderson — brakes and caliper condition, tyres, suspension, coolant circuits, cabin and battery filters, 12V system health and WOF. EV repair work is carried out at our Henderson workshop, where our EV technician is completing his New Zealand Level 5 EV certification. If you drop a vehicle at Avondale and it turns out to need repair work, we’ll move it across for you.
Small trucks: we’re happy to look after small trucks for businesses whose other vehicles we already service. Truck work varies enormously, so talk to us about the specific vehicle first — some repairs on heavier vehicles fall outside our scope, and we’ll tell you that up front rather than halfway through.
Petrol, diesel and hybrid are all charged at the same labour rate. Vehicle size and complexity drive the cost, not the fuel in the tank.

Servicing that works around your business
Warrant of fitness on site. We carry out WOF inspections at both workshops, so a service and a warrant can be handled in a single visit and a single piece of downtime.
Certificate of Fitness vehicles. We don’t carry out COF inspections ourselves. If one of your vehicles requires a Certificate of Fitness rather than a WOF, we’ll book it in and take it through for you — charged at our standard hourly rate plus the cost of the inspection. You don’t have to organise it or lose a driver for half a day.
Early drop-off at both branches. Lockboxes are available at Avondale and Henderson, so you can drop a vehicle and key before we open. Both workshops open at 7:30am, and there’s usually someone on site from around 6:00am at Avondale and 7:00am at Henderson if you’d rather hand the keys over in person.
Free loan vehicles. We keep a fleet of loan vehicles so your driver isn’t stranded while we work. Avondale has nine cars and three vans, Henderson has seven cars, and vans can be moved between branches when needed. There’s no charge — we simply ask that you return the vehicle clean and with the fuel replaced. Insurance excess applies in the event of any incident. Loan vehicles must be booked in advance, so tell us when you book the service.
Two workshops, one team. Running Avondale and Henderson gives us flexibility a single-site workshop doesn’t have. If one branch is booked out and you’ve got an urgent repair, we can often move the vehicle to the other workshop, or move the technician — including our EV technician, who is based at Henderson. For a business with a vehicle off the road, that flexibility is usually the difference between back working tomorrow and back working next week.
Fleet accounts and monthly invoicing. Fleet accounts are available by application, on standard terms of the 20th of the month following. That means one invoice instead of a payment every time a vehicle comes in.
Commercial fleet rates from four vehicles. Our commercial rate normally applies from four vehicles, though we’re flexible about how that’s made up. A number of local businesses have opened an account primarily so their staff can access the commercial fleet rate on their own cars — if that’s of interest to your team, talk to us about it.
Straight answers about scope. If something on your vehicle is genuinely outside what we can do properly, we say so immediately and help you get it to the right place. We’d rather lose one job than do it badly.
Common questions about fleet servicing
Will servicing outside the dealership affect my warranty?
No. Provided work is carried out to manufacturer specification and properly documented, your new vehicle warranty is unaffected. We keep full records for exactly this reason.
Can you service just one or two vehicles?
Yes. Fleet vehicle servicing at KAAR isn’t limited to large fleets — plenty of our commercial customers run a single van, ute or company car.
Can you work to our internal service schedule?
Yes. If your business has a maintenance standard or a lease requirement, tell us and we’ll service to it.
Do you service company cars as well as work vehicles?
Yes. Pool cars, rep vehicles and management cars are all part of the same fleet as far as we’re concerned, and they benefit from the same condition-based approach.
Do you have loan vehicles available?
Yes, free of charge across both branches — cars at Avondale and Henderson, vans at Avondale and able to be relocated to Henderson on request. Return them clean and refuelled. Booking ahead is essential, so mention it when you book the service.
Can you service electric vehicles in our fleet?
Yes. EV servicing is available at both Avondale and Henderson — brakes, tyres, suspension, coolant, filters, 12V system and WOF are all work we do every day. EV repair work is handled at Henderson, and we’ll shift a vehicle between branches if needed. Internal high-voltage battery repair is specialist work and we’ll refer it on rather than take it on.
What happens if you’re fully booked and we have an urgent repair?
Tell us it’s urgent. With two workshops we can often move a vehicle between branches or shift a technician across to get the work done, rather than simply booking you in for next week. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s an option most single-site workshops don’t have.
Can our staff use the fleet rate for their own cars?
Often, yes. Several businesses have set up an account with us largely so their people can service their personal vehicles at the commercial rate. Ask us how it would work for your team.
Do you do WOF as well as servicing?
Yes, on site at both workshops. COF inspections we don’t do in house, but we’ll book and deliver the vehicle for you.
