Looking for a car mechanic in Henderson? KAAR has been servicing and repairing West Auckland vehicles from Waipareira Ave since 2012. The workshop is run by Colin, with a team of three qualified technicians and an apprentice, and it handles everything from a straightforward Warrant of Fitness through to European diagnostics, transmission work and motorhome servicing.

That matters because European cars don’t forgive guesswork. Getting them right takes the correct diagnostic platform, the correct oil specification and a technician who has seen the fault before. We run Launch, Autel, Snap-on, VCDS, Smartsafe and Autel Otofix equipment on site, so we read the vehicle properly rather than working from a generic code reader.

What we handle in-house

• Scheduled and condition-based servicing to manufacturer specification
• Fault diagnosis, live data analysis and service interval resets
• DSG and mechatronic servicing and repair
• Timing belt and timing chain replacement. We hold or hire the special tooling for VAG 1.6 and 2.0 TDI, 2.0 FSI, Mini and Peugeot 1.4 and 1.6, and Fiat Ducato
• AdBlue system repairs and DPF diagnosis
• Brakes, including the pad, rotor and wear sensor replacement most European vehicles require
• Suspension, cooling system and air conditioning repairs
• Battery registration and coding on BMW

Some coding and adaptation work is job specific. Rather than give you a blanket yes or no at the counter, tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what’s involved before you commit to anything.

On parts, we use a mix of quality aftermarket and genuine, sourced from All Euro Parts, BM Workshop and Startech. We only buy from suppliers with a proven history, so there’s recourse behind the part if a warranty situation ever comes up. Warrant of Fitness at Henderson

A WoF inspection at Henderson is $75 for cars, vans and utes, and takes about an hour. Bookings are required. We hold wait-and-collect slots at roughly 8:00am, 10:15am, 12:30pm and 3:15pm, but our preference is a drop-off. That gives us time to price up anything that needs attention, call you with the detail, and if you approve it, often get the work done the same day.

The failures we see most at Henderson are lights: stop lamps, tail lamps, number plate lamps and headlamp aim. After that it’s suspension, then brakes. We stock wiper blade assemblies including European flexi blades, so that one rarely holds a vehicle up.

One thing worth knowing: a WoF recheck has to be done at the same site as the original inspection. If we inspected it at Henderson, bring it back to Henderson rather than Avondale. Full detail is on our Warrant of Fitness page.

Motorhome and Campervan Servicing

Motorhome and campervan work is handled exclusively at Henderson, as Avondale doesn’t have the space for it. We service and repair the mechanicals: engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, cooling and electrical. We don’t take on habitation repairs, as the variation in setups and suppliers is too wide for us to do properly.

We can take anything up to 8.5 metres, excluding truck-chassis vehicles with dual rear wheels. We’re currently doing a steady run of Fiat Ducato cambelts and hold the tooling for them.

Because of their size, motorhomes are inspected on jacks and axle stands rather than a roller brake machine, so a motorhome WoF takes up to an hour and a quarter. It works out more economically alongside a service, since the vehicle is already up with the wheels off and the full brake inspection happens as part of the job.

Work and Income Quotes

We quote vehicle repairs for Work and Income customers at Henderson. We can’t diagnose a fault for free, but if you’re able to cover the cost of the check, we include that amount in the quotation and refund it to you if the quote is approved. Work and Income will usually pay us directly.

We’re at 5 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, with off-street parking on site. The workshop is open Monday to Thursday 7:30am to 5:00pm and Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm, closed weekends and public holidays.
