Payment & Finance
Our payment and finance options are the ones you’d expect from a professional facility, though we no longer accept cheques, shells, trinkets, muskets or blankets!
Putting the funny stuff aside — car repairs rarely arrive at a convenient moment. It matters to us that a bill isn’t the reason a vehicle stays off the road or unsafe, so we offer a range of ways to pay.
Disclaimer – In selecting the finance options above we have focused on short-term interest-free providers as, in our view, the best available offers. We’re mechanics, not financial advisers. Whichever provider you choose, we’d encourage you to read their current terms and seek independent advice from a qualified financial adviser.
Accepted Payment Terms: Cash, Eftpos, Visa, Mastercard, Afterpay, Bank Transfer & NZISS (WINZ) Payments
KAAR account – Alongside our finance options, we operate fleet accounts for companies — strictly 20th of the following month and subject to an application process. Please contact us for further information, or see our fleet services.
Interest-Free Finance Options
Afterpay – No long applications or complicated terms and conditions. Have your email, phone number, address, date of birth and debit or credit card handy — that’s it.
- 6 weeks interest free, paid in four instalments
- Simple application, approved in minutes
- Your credit limit and payments show in the app
- Works just like a payment card or Apple Pay
Gem Visa – Similar to a standard credit card, with an extended interest-free period on larger purchases.
Qcard – Similar to a standard credit card, with access to a range of interest-free deals and payment holidays.
Both Gem and Qcard take around 7–10 days to approve, so they suit planned work rather than a vehicle in the workshop today. Both carry annual fees and an interest rate outside the interest-free window — check the current terms with the provider before applying.
Cardlink – Usually used for company fleets. Primarily known as a fuel card, it can also be set up for vehicle servicing. Cardlink has now condensed its products to CardSmart.
Work and Income Assistance (WINZ) – Yes, WINZ can assist with car repairs.
We understand vehicle repairs aren’t something people budget for, and you may be eligible for assistance. We will not judge you — we welcome being part of the process so the job gets done properly.
Quotations are required for WINZ. But first we need to know exactly what work is required, which means booking the vehicle in for an inspection or diagnosis. There is a charge for this. We then give you an itemised quotation to email or take to your WINZ appointment.
Don’t let that cost discourage you — there’s no other honest way to do it. If someone offers it free, you’re paying for it somewhere else in the job. WINZ won’t pay for an incorrect diagnosis or the same job twice.
Full detail, including what we do about the diagnosis charge, is on our WINZ car repairs page. This work is handled at Henderson.

Before you decide to replace it instead
This surprises people, so it’s worth saying plainly: in a lot of cases the vehicle you already own is the one you know. You know its history, what’s been done to it, how it’s been driven. Replace it and you’re taking on someone else’s unknown — and there’s every chance you’re twelve months away from an expensive repair on the new one, on top of whatever you paid to get into it.
That isn’t always the answer. Sometimes a repair genuinely costs more than the vehicle is worth, and when that’s the case we’ll tell you so rather than take the work. But “repair the one you know” is more often the better value than people expect.
If you do decide to replace it, get the replacement checked first — a pre-purchase inspection costs a fraction of finding out the hard way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer accounts for businesses?
Yes, for company fleets, on 20th of the following month terms and subject to an application process. Get in touch and we’ll talk it through.
Do you take Zip?
No — Zip has withdrawn from the New Zealand market. Afterpay is the closest equivalent and we accept it.
I’m still paying off the vehicle — can that help?
Possibly, and it’s worth a call before you look anywhere else. A significant repair is never planned, and the vehicle securing that loan is worth more to your finance provider running than off the road. Many will look at restructuring or extending to cover essential repairs. It costs nothing to ask.
Will WINZ pay for my car repairs?
They may be able to help. You’ll need a written quote to apply, which we provide at our Henderson workshop. See our WINZ car repairs page for how it works, including what we do about the diagnosis charge.
What finance options do you offer?
Yes. Afterpay covers six weeks interest free. For larger jobs, Gem Visa and Qcard offer longer interest-free terms, though they take seven to ten days to approve — so they suit planned work rather than a vehicle in the workshop today.
Do you accept American Express?
No. Every card carries a merchant fee, and Amex sits meaningfully higher than the rest. That cost either gets surcharged at the counter or quietly built into everyone’s prices, and we’d rather do neither. It’s not a criticism of Amex — We keep it under review, so if it’s a problem for you, particularly on a business account, tell us — and in the meantime the finance options above are all available here.
How much does a car service cost?
The cost varies depending on the service type, vehicle model, and any required repairs. Contact us for a free quote.
Do you offer payment plans or financing?
Not for private customers, no. We’re in the business of repairing vehicles, and chasing invoices is a different business entirely — managing credit would pull us away from the thing we’re actually good at. That’s why we’ve gone the other way instead, and set up interest-free options through providers who do that properly. You get the flexibility, we stay focused on the workshop, and nobody ends up in an awkward conversation about an overdue account.
Company fleet accounts are the exception, on 20th of the following month terms and subject to application.
